Arnel Calvario grew up with funk and street styles of the 70’s and 80’s, finding a place of belonging and identity through dance. When he started college at UC Irvine, Arnel wanted to give other dancers a chance to cultivate their passion for dance and founded Kaba Modern in 1992. Since then, he’s advised and managed Kaba Modern, Kaba Kids, Kaba Legacy, as well as America’s Best Dance Crew teams Fanny Pak, Beat Freaks, and The Kinjaz. He is also a part of Culture Shock Los Angeles, a non-profit organization that serves schools and communities using Hip Hop music and dance, while promoting and preserving authentic Hip Hop culture in an evolving dance world.
